In 1920, Earle Dickson, was regularly bandaging his new bride’s cooking injuries. She was unable to treat herself with the existing oversized and clumsy bandages. Earle, an ingenious inventor, came up with the first prototype for a self applied, user friendly band-aid.

He affixed sterile gauze at intervals down the center of surgical tape so his wife could unwind and cut what she needed to immediately treat herself. The BAND-AID® Bandage is now found in every household.
